Fishing Reports

07.17.10

Hooked up with Blue Ranger and made the run over to Erieau again as the reports from Wheatley didnt sound
very encouraging. Had lines in around 6:30 or so and had a bow on right away on a #1 setting with ring 70 back
with a Gale Force Tackle Lemon Chicken. We then proceeded to pick through 30 sheephead and 2 walleye. Once
we hit 65 FOW it was game on. First quad of the year clearing 4 dipsys, all ended up in the boat. We ended up
going 15 for 15 (or 16, currently a debate) and lines out by 10:30. One of the 15 was a 12lb king. Best depth was
68 to 72. Best line was 15.5/43.2. Best settings were #1 70 back, #3 130 back (with rings). Best colors were Gale
Force Tackle Lemon Chicken, Kevorkian, Funky Chicken & Denver Bronco.

Total count for the trip:  15 Steelhead and 3 walleyes

Fished Erieau from 6:45 until around 1:30 or so. Started out in 38 FOW by the yellow stakes and had a bow on
before all of the lines were set, but lost it about 50 feet behind the boat. We then went through about 25
sheepshead and just kept trolling deeper until we were out of them. Ended up doing best between 64 and 67
FOW around the 14.7/47.5 line. Ended up 13 for 25 with 3 walleye in the mix. Dipsys with a ring on a 1 setting 70
back and 3 setting 130 back were good along with riggers 40 to 35 down with sliders. Good first trip of the year
over on the north shore.

Total count for the trip:  13 Steelhead and 3 walleyes

07.03.10

We set up around the 45/08 line and fished all the way to the 45/05 line. Best bite was right around the 45/07 line.
We went 6 for 11 on the steelies and a bonus 4 eyes. We fished from about 7 until 12:30 or so. Not a bad bite, but
not a super fast one either. Pretty happy for the first trip of the year for steelies. Riggers 25 and 40 down along with
a number 1 60 back with a ring. Gale Force Tackle Jerry Lee and Nuked Veggies did most of the damage. Speed
was 2.6 to 3.0. Alot of fish and bait in the area.

Total count for the trip:  6 Steelhead and 4 walleyes

As the boat was already in Huron we decided to put in at the new ramp and fish due north of the river around the
34/34 line. The new ramp is excellent and the weather was awesome. Pulled meat around 1.3 MPH and pulled
our 18 fish by 11:00 or so. We talked to Randy (Uplander) and he had us move easy by a few miles for our last
pass and we that helped us finish it up in short order. Gale Force Tackle blades were hot again. Attention Deficit,
Reel Naughty, Funky Chicken, and Barbie.   2 oz anywhere from 41 to 66 back.  We then went east of the airport off
of Kellys island and tried for some perch. Only pulled around 10 for our short efforts and then decided to head up
off of Cedar Point to clean the boat up and get some pics. Overall a great day on the water with some cool photo’s
for the day.

Total count for the trip: 18 walleyes and 10 perch

06.11-13.10

We had a blast fishing the Kenosha/Racine area this weekend. We ended up taking 37 fish for the weekend with
10 kings in the mix and one that went 21lbs. The DNR officer back at the ramp called it a giant for this time of year
in that area. It was great trip!

On Friday we fished from 6:30 until around noon and went 13 for 18. 2 kings around 12 and the rest were coho’s.
Did not make it out for the afternoon bite - tired from the drive and the wind picked up. We fished east of reef
structure. Fish came really good on 8 colors (Kings) and 3 colors with flies and orange dodgers. The other hot set
up for us all weekend was a slide diver on a 5 setting with a orange mini-spin doctor and a fly. Nuked veggies, a
spoon from Gale Force Tackle, did excellent on the kings all weekend long. Wish we had one more!

On Sat we were supposed to have a nice west wind and it was on shore, but once out on the lake it was out of the
NE so we decided to make the long run in the morning from Kenosha to Racine again. Started north of the reef
and had 5 fish in our first past including the 21 lb king. 8 colors was good early and then the higher stuff went
again. We ended up with 10 fish. Fished from around 5:30 until 11:00 or so. A pretty good bite.

Sat evening we went back out, and after talking with a local guy he gave us a tip on an area up north so we made
the run out of Racine. Had a fish on right away and then picked at them for the rest of the night. Fished right
through till dark and pulled a few kings. Same program as before with 6 fish for the night. We went 6 for 15 I think.
We had a lot of swings misses for some reason.

We got out early on Sunday, lines in the water around 5:00 or so. Started off at the reef again out of Racine and
had one pull back and no fish to show for it by 6:30. We pulled lines after talking with Rich from Fishmeister
Charters and headed up north again. Had a fish on before all the lines were set and had a double at one point.
Went 8 for 14 and were pulling fish when we had to pack it in around 11:00 or so.

Total count for the trip: 37 salmon

On Sunday Corey, Chris and myself decided to make the run to Lorain waters for some big fish fishing. I spoke
with Dennis (Ebi’s buddy) the night before and he was still on them, along with another set of guys I know, so we
decided to make the run. Put in at Vermillion around 5:45 and had rods in the water around 6:15 or so. We didn’t
get out first fish until 7:50 I think, but then it was incredible – we pulled 14 fishing between 7:50 and 12:00 – 6 of
them were FO’s with the biggest being 29.75 and 11.3 lbs. Our top 5 on the water weighed 50lbs +! The best day
of big fish fishing I have ever had.

Total count for the trip: 14 Walleyes

On Sat I took out a co-worker from Germany and another fishing buddy. We stayed close to home in the MI waters
of Erie right out in front of Sterling. We started around 6:30 or so and quit at 11:00. Had 5 fish our first pass, 5 our
second and then the sun went up high along with boat traffic and managed 3 on our next pass and then headed
in. Could have pulled the other two to punch the tickets but it was getting hot and I was tired of playing dodgem
with the drifters, perch fishermen, and trollers.

Total count for the trip: 13 Walleyes

05.15.10

On Sat we decided to make the run N of N bass again. Had two fish on the first pull, but nothing great, so we
headed out to deeper water – 36ft. Marked some of the best fish I have seen all year, but only boated one fish on
one pull. We then headed back in tight to the island in 22 FOW and made a pull with only a pull back. Decided the
action wasn’t as good as the day before so we headed to our second spot. Marked fish again and starting
catching within 10 mins of setting down. Same leads as the day before. Ended the day with 18lbs. I honestly don’t
think we could go out again and catch 10 fish in the area that weighed 18lbs.

Total count for the trip: 10 Walleyes

05.14.10

On Friday we pre-fished for the LEWT event. We started off fishing about two miles east of Middle Bass – had one
fish on before all lines were set and then had two more pull backs. Didn’t boat a single fish however. We then
made the run up to North Bass. Started off of the NW corner of West Reef. A lot of current, slowest I could get was
1.6 going with them, and that was with 4 bags out. 2oz 35 back and 1 oz 30 back did the damage.
We then made a run down to the area between Middle and Middle Bass – made one pull with 2 fish and then
made another droll (drift troll) with 3 fish. Same leads as above seemed to work. Marked good fish in both area.
Pulled a 31lb basket for the day that was anchored by a 30” 10.8lb beast.

Total count for the trip: 14 Walleyes

We ended up waiting out the weather this morning and put in around 7:45 or so at the state park. Ran over to PIB
and picked up Corey and Dave as they are staying the Island for a bachelor party - one was in better working
shape then the other!! In any case we started our first troll right off the red can off of Gibralter and ran towards
rattle, and then came back on the same line - left the area with 15 or 16 fish. We then went NW of N bass and
pulled another 16 or so fish on one pass a mile long and then back. The action inside the bay slowed down with
all the traffic hiding out from the wind. Did not mark much up by N bass, but pulled pretty good the entire troll. 2 oz
20 to 40 back was best. Quit around 2:00 or so. Speed was around 1.1 to 1.3. Also, copper blades in 5's and a
white on purple UV silver streak in an 8 was going well until we lost two of them from fish throwing them.

Total count for the trip: 32 Walleyes

Went and made the run to the islands today. Set up north of North Bass, 3/4's of the way to the Canadian line.
Pulled 25 to 30 fish from 7:30 until 12:30 or so. 1 oz 20 back and 2 oz 50 back was good. The fish were all over,
but those leads seemed to be the best. Copper with any orange in it seemed to be best. A really good grade of
fish as well. A few FO's in the mix with a few eaters.

Total Count for the Trip: 25-30 Walleyes

We got the chance to take the owner of Gale Force Tackle out to try some of our great spring jigging down in
Maumee Bay.  We set up shop smack dab right in between Turtle Island and the Lighthouse fishing the long 9-
11FOW flat.  White bladebaits and purple hairjigs with minnows did the damage...We jigged up half our limit in a
couple hours and pulled out the big sticks.  We setup right in front of Toledo Beach Marina in 15-17FOW.  We
trolled 1 ounce inlines 10-35 back and took fish on all leads.  Attention Deficit was on fire followed by Purple
Demon.  AND THE WALLEYES COULDN'T TAKE IT, AND BIT ON THE ALL EXCLUSIVE REEL NAUGHTY
PATTERN ! ! !  We ran about 1.1-1.3MPH on the GPS.  Runnign uphill into the waves seemed to produce better
bites for us.  We ended up boxing out for the day south of Toledo Beach Marina.

Total Count for the Trip: 20 Walleyes

After the great day of fishing on Saturday, I decided to take out the duck boat and grab Todd and Rich in the
morning.  We launched out of Fenwick Marina and headed to the same spot as Saturday.  We had a great first
drift, taking 10 eyes over a short length of time.  Then the Spanish Armada arrived, or shall I say the Ohio Charter
fishing fleet.  They left dock around 7am and headed right towards us and set down, bringing all the other
pleasure boaters with them.  All the traffic shut down the fishing, but we were still able to get our limit of eyes and
fun fish until about 9:30am.

Total Count for the Trip : 25 Walleyes

Got the invite to fish with our duck hunting buddies Friday night.  Took the offer and headed out of Fenwick Marina
early Saturday morning.  We fished west of Turtle creek about a half mile offshore in 15 FOW.  Made one drift thru
and had out limit in 23 minutes.  White bladebaits were great during the sunrise but all pink and purple/chrome
did the most damage when the sun popped out.  Fun fished until 8:15am and caught about 40 eyes.  It's a great
day when you can get your limit and be back at the launch at 8:30am!

Total Count for the Trip:  40 Walleyes

Tourney Day!  Today was the first leg to the Lake Erie Walleye Trail(LEWT) tournament series out of Fenwick
Marina.  On Sat we wanted to get 5 fish quick - set up on Cone and had them in 8 mins!! Jigged a bit longer
catching 22 eyes on one drift. After jigging up a bag of solid 4 pounders, we made the change to trolling and went
down by D can - not many marks so we pushed east. Found a lot of marks between D and Green. Had a pull back
before the fourth rod was out - fish sucked the board back hard and then popped off! Worked the area for almost
two hours with nothing more to show for it. It was very difficult to leave the amount of marks, but they were not
hungry so we then headed up to Niagara - handled 10 fish in that area. Tail dancers 35 back were really good for
us. Just could not get any big fish to go!! And then the wind started and boat control became more then difficult.
Best speed all weekend was around 1.4 MPH on the GPS.

Total Count for the Trip:  32 Walleyes

My dad and I took Corey's 18 foot Crestliner out and got out relatively early out of Lamberjacks Marina. We started
fishing just before 7am out on Cone Reef. It was flat calm in the morning and the eyes were up high. I saw 3 of
em breaking the surface near us as we were motoring towards our spot.  We were wrapping things up about 8:45
after bringing in about 27 walleye! We kept all 22" fish weighing about 3.5 - 4 lbs. We were cleaning things up and
I told my dad one more fish or 10 more jigs of my purple/chrome blade bait and were done! On the 8th rip, BAM!.....
I landed a 29.5" 9lb post spawn eye! Man was that fun reeling up from 27FOW! Caught her legally and right off the
bottom. One of the best walleye fights I've had. I think this is my personal best walleye too!

Total Count for the Trip: 28 Walleyes

It was one of those weekends that we will NEVER forget....The team took Friday off to do a little pre-fishing prior to
the first leg of the LEWT tournament.  We wanted to find some active fish on the Reef Complex near Davis Besse,
and boy did we ever.  We started out fishing on Crib reef in which we made one drift and caught about 10 eyes.  A
great start, but not blazing.  We made the move out a little west towards Cone Reef and it was game on.  Vertically
jigging Bladebaits in purple/chrome and purple hair jigs did most of our damage.  We made two drifts over the
reef and landed near 60 +/- walleyes!   We felt very confident in that spot for the next day, so we left the area and
set up trolling with the big sticks.  Finally got to put the new Shimano Tekotas to work, and boy were they nice!
Headed to the area between Niagara and C can - a lot of fish. Pulled 3 fish in about an hour and 45 minutes -
DDHJ12's 35 and 65 back and deep tail dancers 35 back.  We then went out to the area between Cone and B
can- some fish, not as many as over by C can though. 2 pullbacks for about 45 mins of effort.  After working over
that area we then moved down to E/D can - pulled two fish for about 90 mins of work.

Total Count for the Trip:  +/-75 Walleyes

FINALLY!  We made it through the winter and the ice is now gone on Lake Erie.  Got the boat out and we were
able to let her stretch her legs a little bit today.  Launched out of Bolles Harbor and took a ride down to the
Dumping Grounds.  We started out on the 18-19FOW flats updrift of the humps.  We marked a lot of fish, both on
the bottom and suspended.  We made a couple drifts and ended taking 2 eyes, both on jigs.  We rolled a few on
bladebaits, but were not able to hookup.  The water clarity was catchable, but the water temperature dropped a
good 3-4 degrees from a few days past with a strong NE blow - which turned the fish off.  Its always a good thing
when we can get the big boat out during the month of March on mother Erie.  Although the days catch was not the
best, it sure felt good getting back out on the open water again for the start of our 2010 season!

Total Count for the Weekend:  2 Walleyes
