Archived Fishing Reports
7.23.06
We finally had one of those, "you should have been here yesterday" days. Ended up going 24 for 28 plus 11 eyes
in the mix. Fished from 8:00 till 12:00 or so. It was an awesome day. Purples on the morning and oranges after 9:
00. Dipsys 115, 75, 50, and then we moved them down from their. Didnt seem to matter to much. Riggers at 44
and 37 with sliders also pulling some fish. 5 and 6 colors of lead also worked. Overall an awesome day. Big fish
were two 11.5lbers.
Total Count for the Weekend: 11 Walleyes and 24 Bullets

6.24 & 6.25.06
On Saturday we fished the Detroit bell. Started in 19FOW and then ran with the waves south. Pulled our 4 man
limit in about an hour. Spoons off of 40's 30 - 50 back. By the end of our drift we were in 26 FOW, but the good
fishing stopped around 24 FOW.
One very interesting note - Water temp by the bell, 70.1 degrees. Water temp at 26 FOW, 71.8 Deg. The baitfish
must be loving the Lake Huron water!!
On Sunday I fished with Rebel again and pulled out two man limit at the CDN line south of MS. Switched things up
and ran bottom bouncers and bead sinkers with meat. Our first spot was abit to far south, but when we made the
move north we pulled our fish in about an hour and a half. Speed was around 1.3 - 1.5. Great day to be on the
water.
Total Count for the Weekend: 32 Walleyes

Well, it took us a while today, 4 hours, but we pulled our 4 man limit off of the point, sorda. It is more like go the
point and then drive for until you hit the Ohio line. Bite was slow for us. Had 11 in about 1.5 hours and thought it
was going to be an awesome day then we trolled to far north and picked up and ran back south to finish out our
day. Same program as days gone by, spoons off of Jet 40's 4- 50 back.
Total Count for the Weekend: 20 Walleyes

The bay was hot this weekend! Started off Sat morning with a 5 person limit just south of the point. 21 FOW
using Jet 40's 30 back, Mini Discs 50 - 70 back, and Dipsys on a setting 1, 16 back. No real big fish, but the
action was great.
On Sat night I took out the wife, her sister, and her boyfriend. Started off near the Ohio line, pulled bigger fish but
the action was slower so we just continued the troll into the bay. Same program as above, pulled a 4 person limit
in about 2 hours, only kept enough fish for a meal. It was good to put two newbies on some fish in their first trip
out.
Sunday morning I got the chance to hook up with Erie Rebel. We fished the same basic are but the waves we a
bit larger and I trolled further south then I would have like to and that cost some time. Still managed our 3 man
limit in a little over 2 hours on the same program as above. We then stopped and did some casting for
entertainments sake and pulled 4 more.
Sunday night Todd and I headed out for a few hours. Pulled a two man limit in the same general area running the
same program. Threw back all but 5.
Water temp on both days was around 69.1 - 69.6.
Total Count for the Weekend: 60 Walleyes

6.4.06
Friday we started off at the sugar island cut, pulled a ton of WB's. We then fished the south side of the dike wall,
pulled approx 10 largemouth and a ton of Rock Bass and only 1 smallmouth. Then went up to the hole in the wall
and proceeded to tear up the rock bass again. We then went up and fished the US waters of Hidden Lake and
absolutly smoke the largemouth. Between the 3 of us we pulled over 25 fish (that is smoking for me since I fish
for bass about once every 4 yrs!) in about 3 hours of work. We also caught alot of rockies to keep us busy. Pulled
all of the fish on a 4 inch grub with a nail weight and weedless hook. Overall the guys had a great time, one was
from Denver and he said it was a day he wont ever forget. Thanks for all of the help and tips before hand. I actually
had a decent time fishing for the toothless critters. I used to fish for them alot when I was younger, but this was
the first time in years that I have actually targeted them.
Sat was Corey's wedding.
Sunday I fish from about 1/2 down the south side of the dike to the outer limits of Fermi today from 1:00 to 4:00
with Frank T. We pulled 18 fish, all on Big Jon's 25 - 30 back. Fished 16FOW for the most part. We found a really
active pod in 15FOW directly out of Swan Creek (I think??). Pulled 9 quick fish and then the wind drove us into the
bay where we pulled one more in 17FOW and then called it a day. No real size, but all fish were over 15"s. I still
dont know about running inline boards, I would much rather run big ones myself, but since we only ran 4 rods it
didnt make much sense.
Total Count for the Weekend: 19 Walleyes, 1 Hitched Buddie, and 30+ Bass

On Sat we started of N of WS in 28FOW. We had 5 fish quickly and then it slowed down abit. We talked to "Got
One" on the radio and Steve said to head a little further south, so we moved about 2 miles south to finish out our 3
man limit. All fish came on Jet 40's 50- 70FB and Mini-Discs 50 - 70FB. All spoons.
Sunday was the first leg of the 2006 FWT. This year we have 4 boat competing amongst friends for this years
bragging rights and the FWT flag. Team Lady Bridge fished east of WS and pulled 53lbs of fished between 5
guys for an average of 10.6lbs/man. Downtown Andy Brown also fished east of WS for 40lbs of fish between 5
guys for an average of 8lbs/man. Skunk Ape took a chance on Kelley's and pulled 18lbs for 3 people, or
6lbs/man. We fished even further south of where we fished on Sat after comparing notes with Steve. Lines in at 6:
00 and we had our limit by 8:30, we then upgraded until 12:30. All fish came on spoons off of Mini-Discs and Jet
40's with the same outs as on Sat. We pulled 74.2lbs of fish for 4 guys, or 18.55lbs/man. We had one 29.25
kicked fish in the mix, with a lot of 4 and 5lbers. It is a two-day event so anything can happen come July when the
second leg will be fished.
Total Count for the Weekend: 42 Walleyes

The day started really slow for us, only 1 eye by 8:30, and then we went into shallower water. We did the best in 18
- 19FOW in the muddy water. Jet 40's 25 back with spoons took most of the fish. We also pulled a few on dipsys.
Had our 15 by 1:00 and went back in.
Total Count for the Weekend: 15 Walleyes

On Sat we braved the weather and fished between A-Can and B-Can. Ended up pulling 10 eyes in about 3.5
hours of fishing. Spoons and meat, both worked. Working 15 - 20 FOW with jets, dipsy's and inline weights. Jet
40's 35 - 45 back, dipsys setting 1 22FB, setting 3 30FB, and 1oz inlines 50 - 60FB. Speed was 1.8-2.1. On our
last pass we went to within 2 miles of West Sister, excellent marks, but no takers. Fish ranged from 15.5" to 27.5"
with the average being around 23"s
Total Count for the Weekend: 10 Walleyes

With a stiff NE wind this weekend, I was only able to get out on Sat. The crew consisted of Rick, Flip and myself.
We went out of Catawba State Park and headed towards the bass Islands. We set of on the 24ft shelf that
extends east of Rattlesnake, around 7:30, and marked a ton of fish, but no takers. We then headed north to West
Reef and only managed one Steelie. We then headed back down south and set up in the narrow between S and
M Bass and trolled east. Made two passes and picked up four fish. All on cranks. Speed was 1.4 - 1.6 and the
water temp was 52.6.
Total Count for the Weekend: 4 Walleyes and 1 Steelie

I was able to fish Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of this week! On Saturday Ahmed and I fished one mile north of B-
Can. We caught six fish between 7:30 and 9:30 with three of them being FO's! Fish came on spinners 20 - 1oz -
30, and RR's 45 - 55fb. The bite shutdown around 9:30 for us.
On Sat we fished a tourny out of Anchor point. We went straight to the same location we fished on Sat and had
few marks and no fish. From their we continued to push eastward, stopping two miles east of Niagara, no fish,
and then finally picked up two in between N and MI Bass. Fish came on a orange spinner and a Pink Lemonade
RR. Water temp was around 53 degs.
On Sat evening we fished between Turtle and the Lighthouse. We started of in 11FOW and it was slow, we then
headed to 9FOW and it was on! We caught 28 fish in about an hour and a half. 4 man limit was selected from the
bigger fish. Water temp was 59 degs.
On Sunday we headed out early to the same area we ended at last night. Dropped lines at 6:30 and had our
three man limit by 7:15. Played C & R for about another 25mins. 20 eyes total and I was back in bed by 9:00!
Total Count for the Weekend: 56 Walleyes

We were able to fish on both Friday and Sat. Fridays crew consisted of Todd and myself. We started out with
seas of glass, out of Bolles and went to the dumping grounds. By the time we arrived it was blowing 1-3's and it
only got worse. We picked up 4 fish, all of a gold/chartreuse 3/8oz Vib-E. The waves kicked up even more, 2-4's
and the fishing didn’t get any better. We then got a tip from Skunk that he was picking fish between Lil' Cedar
point and the lighthouse, so we made the 6 mile trek. Got 4 more fish, three on purple hair jigs, and 1 on the Vib-
E. We then made one more move, between turtle and the lighthouse, had 4 solid hook-up's on a 3/8z silver
Cicada, but couldn’t bring the fish home. Water temp was 53.4
On Sat we headed to the reefs, (Corey, Todd, and Frank T). The day started off great, 4 fish on about 45mins in
10FOW directly outside of Turtle Creek. However, they were smaller so we made the move out the reefs and only
caught one more the rest of day. We set up off of cone, one report said that they did good on cone, probably
should have tried that! We also trolled from 1 mile east of C-Can to about 1/2 mile past it and didn’t get anything.
Had two good trolling reports, one from 1.7M west of C-Can, RR 30-35 back @ 1.5MPH, and one from E of
Niagara with the same program. Extremely frustrating when you here good reports but you cant get the fish to go!
Water temp was 50.3
Total Count for the Weekend: 13 Walleyes

It was great to finally be back on the water in 2006! The crew consisted of Corey, Rich and Rick (since LBII wasn’t
in the water yet). We launched out of Fenwick Marina around 6:45 and headed towards the reefs. We ran all the
way to Cone and then set down. Within 5 minutes we had the first fish on, it came on a purple hair jig. It then
became the Corey Miller, show, he ended up catching 13 of the 16 total fish! He was throwing a gold/chartreuse
Cicada. Rick ended up with two, and Rich with one. I ended up with zero, but I was busy keeping us on the fish!
We had out limit of 16 by 10:45 and then ran 6 miles due east, 2 miles past Niagara reef, and trolled cranks for 45
minutes without a hit. The wind had picked up out of the east and 2’4s were starting to roll so we headed in.
Water temp on the reefs was 43.8 and 40.5 out past the reef complex. Overall it was a great first trip!
Total Count for the Weekend: 16 Walleyes and 4 Perch
Thanks

Based on the poor reports coming in from Wheatley we made the decision to give Erieau a try. We started off
7 miles out of the harbor on the 110 heading. Lines in at 7:45 and the first fish was on a 8:00. Downriggers at
43 and 50 down with sliders, and dipsys 1 @ 70, 2 @ 100, 3 @ 120. We ended up 15 for 22 on the bullets and
also put 11 eyes in the box with one at 6lbs and one at 30"s, 9.25lbs caught by Corey. Hot spoons included
hitman and deep purple (it pulled all 3 big eyes). Lines out by 11:30 and then a 6 mile ride home crossing solid
2-4's with the occasional 5.
Total Count for the Weekend: 11 Walleye and 15 Steelhead

8.20.05
We made the trip up to Wheatley again this weekend(8.20) for some Bullet action. Started setting rods at 7:45
and we were only 3 for 4 by 11:00. Seemed like it was going to be a slow day. Then a big thunderstorm
pushed through and things really heated up. We ended the day at 1:30 going 24 for 32. No real big fish this
time, all were between 5 and 8lbs. Downriggers at 40ft, dipsys on setting 1 back 55 and setting 3 back 105.
Both purple and orange were the hot colors again, with deep purple and hitman being the hottest. We were
around the 02/19 line. It seemed like this fish pushed a little east vs where they were earlier in the week.
Another bonus is that we put a 4 man limit of eyes in the box as well.
Total Count for the Weekend: 14 Walleye and 24 Steelhead!

8.13.05
The Reel Naughty made the trip up to Wheatley over the weekend for some Bullet action and we were not
disappointed. Started setting rods at 7:15 and had the first fish on before all 6 were rods set. Ended up going
21 for 28 with two break offs, off the water by noon. Downriggers at 43ft, dipsys on setting 1 back 55 and
setting 3 back 105. Both purple and orange were the hot colors again. We were around the 03/18 and 04/17
lines. Same basic location as last week. Speed was around 2.5 - 3.0. It seems like going with the waves
produced better numbers.
On Sunday we decided to stay close to home and fish out in front of Sterling. Picked up two keeper eyes both
coming off of Jet 40's at 17FOW with metal. A very slow day overall considering we fished from 6:30 until 11:
00.
Total Count for the Weekend: 4 Walleyes and 21 Steelhead!

Made the trip Thursday with some veteran walleye skippers including Rick - Capt. of Lady Bridge, Chris - Capt.
of Skunk Ape, and Tom - Capt. of Optimist. We fished 7-10 miles ESE of Wheatley and went 17 for 24 on
Thursday with a couple of eyes and minimal junkers. Waves 2-4 on Thursday and not much of an issue after
that. Friday we went 17 for 25 in the morning & 13-15 in the evening for a 30 for 40 day. Saturday was much
slower and we went 6 for 8. Fish averaged a solid 6 lbs. with a few over 9. Orange Crush, Kevorkian, and a
purple ladder back spoon (all stingers)were the best lures. Dipsys on a 1 setting at 55, 2 at 75, 3 at 105, and
riggers at 40 - 43, with a slider at the bow, seem to work the best.
Total Count for the Weekend: 3 Walleyes and 52 Steelhead!
Thanks

Based on this weekends results it may be time to hang up the trolling rods in place of a jigging pole for a
while. On Friday night I took out Kurt and a buddy of his from H.S. We fished the same 20ft area from 7:00
until 9:00 and we managed 4 fish pulling only meat. No shorts and only two junk fish, not bad for only two
hours but still slow.
On Sat the wind was howling in the morning from the NE so I headed to Cabala's to have the FWT flag
finished. In the afternoon Joe invited me aboard his boat with his Girlfriend, both of which were very nice!
The weeds were horrible in close we headed out to 24ft of water and trolled through to 26. Managed 1 fish in
about 2 hours pulling all metal.
Sun was the second day of the FWT. We once again planned on fishing the same 20ft area. We threw
weapons until 8:30 with nothing and then thought about trolling..... no way. It looked like a sod farm there
were so many weeds. We out another 3 miles and trolled back in until we hit weeds and picked up two small
keepers. We then did some hunting and ended up between WS and MS. Very few marks but we immediately
hit some shorts and only managed one additional keeper. Overall a piss poor day and weekend. LBII
managed six fish so we decided to extend the FWT 1 more day. After two days the standings are LBII - 71lbs
and RN - 59lbs. We have dug ourselves a hole but with day three planned to be Huron all bets are off!
Total Count for the Weekend: 8 Walleyes and some shorts.
Thanks

Based on the results we had last weekend in MI water we once again decided to stay close to home. We left
for Sterling around 5:45 and had lines in at 6:30 on the same 20ft contour line in Breast Bay. We pulled both
metal and meat again focusing on the 15ft range and the result was a 3 man limit of eyes by 12:00. Nothing
real fast just steady action with a ton of shorts.
On Sunday we planned to hit the same area but we didn't even go out on the lake with a stiff NE wind.
Total Count for the Weekend: 15 Walleye and a ton of shorts.
Thanks

Fishing on the Ohio side of the lake has really slowed down and the results in MI are mixed. On Saturday Rick
McGuckin of LBII hopped on RN for the day. We lunched from Fenwick around 6:00 and started fishing by A-
Can off the range and marked a ton of fish, however, we could not get anything to go. We ended up getting
caught in a pretty nasty thunderstorm that we though we turn the fish on, but still a no go. We called it a day
around noon with only 6 fish to show for out efforts. We target 15-20ft with all metal, both jets and dipsys.
On the 17th Rich, Todd and myself decided to stick close to home so we went out of Sterling for the first time
this year. It turned out to be a good decision. We hit the water at 6:00 and threw weapons until 9:00. We
pulled 4 keepers eyes but could only land three. We then made the switch to trolling with dipsys in inlines
since the weeds were so bad. We pulled both metal and meat on the 20ft contour line focusing on 15ft of
depth. We pulled another 7 fish with one monster caught by Rich....... a 29.5", 9lb pig that hit a Sir Walleye
spoon off of the inline. Biggest fish taken so far aboard the RN. Still picked up a ton of shorts.
Total Count for the Weekend: 16 Walleye (1 Pig) and a ton of shorts.
Thanks

Overall the fishing on the lake has really slowed down. On Sunday the 26th we fished the Ohio/MI line for 3
hours and pulled 14 very nice eyes. All fish came on jet 40s and dipsys pulling metal @ 2.2-2.6 mph. We
Targeted 18ft and deeper. Not a bad day considering we wasted the better part of it fishing with dead
minnows for perch.
On July 4th I was once again invited aboard LBII. We fished west of A can and only managed 5 fish. Not all
that bad based on some of the reports coming in from other boats. All fish came on jet 40s and dipsys pulling
metal @ 2.2-2.6 mph. We targeted 14 thru 19ft.
Total Count For June 26th: 14 Walleye and 36 Perch + a ton of junk
Total Count For July 4th: 5 Walleye and a ton of junk
Thanks

6.20.05
Ended up making a last second decision to fish on Sunday, 5:00am I rallied the crew, and took two tickets on
Sunday (out of 4 possible) - 2# average. Ended up fishing between middle sister and west sister, closer to
middle. Program was jet 40s, dipsys pulling metal @ 2.2-2.6 mph. Targeted 18ft and deeper.
The hatch is really strong right now and oddly enough all the fish we cleaned had shiners in them with a
minimal amount of mayflies. By next weekend the fish should be all the way to the border. The pod of fish
was most active about 2 miles south of middle. Also there was a good pack of boats by G-Can but from the
radio it didn't sound like they were doing all that well.
Total Count For The Weekend: 12 Walleye and a ton of junk.
Thanks

6.14.05
Overall fishing was slower this weekend. It started off on Saturday with Corey, Rich, Ahmed and myself
heading out of Anchor Point to our honey hole NE of WS around 6:00. It was very slow in that area. We only
managed 7 fish by 11:00. We then received a tip from LBII that the fish were hitting a bit better N of Sputnick
so we pulled lines and made the move. We picked up 15 fish in only two and a half hours and ended the day
with 22 before the storms pushed us off the lake. Overall it was a good day. The program was the same as
previous weeks but with all jet 40's running from 22 - 27 feet deep. Dipsys were run the same. Hot spoons
were lamicakes, snatch and happyhooker.
On Sunday we decided to take the ladies out for a day on the lake, however, my wife had a bachelorette party
the night before and still felt ill so the crew was Corey, Sarah and myself. We left Sterling around 12:45 and
had lines in by 1:30 at the same location as the previous day. We ended going through 150 clips for 10 keeper
eyes. It was a good day for Sarah since we had action the entire time. The program was the same a the prior
day with the same spoons being hot. Lines out at 4:45.
Monday was a bust. I invited my boss to go fishing along with Todd thinking it would be a nice day based on
the weather report. Wrong. We left Sterling at 7:30 and made an hour boat ride in 2-4's out to the previous
days location. We only made one pass and called it quits. Picked up two fish and a ton of junk. Lines in at 11:
00 and then an hour boat ride back in 2-4's with the occasional 5 or 6.
Total Count For The Weekend: 36 Walleye and a ton of junk.
Thanks

6.5.05
Overall fishing was great this weekend. It started off for us on Sat with an early morning run out of Anchor
Point. I had a wedding to go to on the afternoon so we left the dock at 5:15. We stopped at the gravel beds
first and didn't see many marks so we worked a little east where we caught some fish in the previous weeks
and still didn't see the good marks so we made the trek northeast of West Sister. We got set up and running
around 6am and immediately started pulling in fish. By 10:30-10:45 we had our 4-man limit of eyes (51lbs).
We started the day trolling spoons off dipsys, 30 and 50fb setting 1 and 3, and jet 20's 80 – 90fb. Colors were
same as our last posting, Lami Cakes, Green Puke, Pooh BearPurple, Happy Hooker, Snatch, Light Days.
Pretty much greens or pinks were working well. We switched out some of our spoons on the dipsys and put
some harnesses on with crawlers and actually picked up our biggest fish that way.
On Sunday Todd got shipped off to Germany and Corey and Rick were fishing Lake La Su Anne. I was invited
aboard Lady Bridge for a day of trolling, many thanks to Rick. We were on the water by 6:15 and the day
started a bit slow west of WS. We then received a hot report from Skunk Ape of some hot action closer to
the ditch so we made a move. After picking through about 60 dinks we were able to boat a 5 man ticket of
eyes with a monster going 8+lbs. All fish came on spoons, with the exception of one an a little ripper, off of jet
40’s 40-60fb, and dipsys 30 – 55fb on settings 1 and three. The hot color of the day was Perch. We were off
the water by 3:30 when the flies decided to take the boat over.
Total Count For The Weekend: 54 Walleye and a ton of sub 15" fish.
Thanks

The weekend started off slow for us. On Saturday we headed out of Anchor Point at 6:00am and went
straight to A-Can. The water was extremely dirty and all we managed were cigars and a fish Ohio
Sheepshead. We then made a 10 mile run in 2-5's to the Ohio/MI line by Sputnick. We only picked of one fish
and made another move. This time to north of West Sister. Things went a little better at that location. We
picked of 5 fish all on spoons, some with jet 20's others with dipsys on the number 1 setting. That slowed
done and the Skunk Ape was fishing off of the gravel beds so we headed in that direction. We picked of six
more fish running the same program as above. Off the water at 4:30. Overall it was a very slow day,
however, one big contributor that we found about later was the fact that our line counters are way off. For
example, 84ft back is really around 135 on ours. The whole day we were getting help from Lady Bridge
saying he was running his jets at 85 so we did the same, when really that is 50 on ours. The issue will be
resolved by adding some more backing line.
On Sunday we went out of Anchor Point again at 7:00 and started off 2 miles east of the gravel beds. We
picked of 6 fish on our first pass. Went back for another and picked up 4 more. Then the boat traffic picked
up and things slowed way down. We picked up two more and then headed north of WS. We set up NE of a
little pack and the screen blew up with fish. We picked up our remaining 11 in one pass. Program was jet
20's with spoons 85 back and dipsys on number one at 35fb. Off the water by 2:00 with a 4 man limit.
Monday we started where we ended on Sunday. We were fishing competitively against 2 other teams for
bragging rights so we wanted to go where we thought the fish would be. As soon as we set down the screen
lit up again. We had 1 ticket in about an hour and were in the third inning in no time and then it slowed way
down. The sun came out and the wind died. We were stuck on 19 fish for over an hour. We did find a small
pod of active fish and hit them pretty hard. We ended up with a 4-man ticket by 1:00. Same program as on
Sun. We ended up taking losing to Lady Bridge, 13.25lbs/man vs. 14.5lbs/man. It is a two day even so we still
have a chance.
Total Count For The Weekend: 60 Walleye and 1 Perch, plus a ton of sub 15" fish.
Thanks

I was able to take some vacation from work on Friday and finally get the misses on the boat. We trolled DLR's
and Rip Sticks again behind the inlines and managed to wrangle up about 11 pike. The biggest pike went
about 33+"! Confusion seemed to be the best color in both lures. Both lures again were at 25fb. Speed was
up a little to around 3.1. It was her fist pike and along with that she also caught a couple rock bass along with
the prop on the big motor!
On Saturday we made the trip down to Erie. We launched of Cooley Canal around 7:30. We then made a 8-
mile run over calm water to north of the gravel pits. We picked up two fish immediately; both came on a Gold
Watermelon DLR 130fb. We then picked up one more on a Sir Walleye spoon off of a jet 20. Then it really
slowed down for us. We tried everything, from more speed to slow rolling crawlers and nothing worked. We
fish the same pattern and Lady Bridge and he managed 11 fish. We didn’t get skunked, but it was still a poor
effort in my opinion.
On Sunday we decided to make it a short day and just fish the cross dike. We went out of Metro around 7:00
and trolled in front of Humbug first. We made one pass and decided to head over to the dike for what we
thought would be fast and furious pike action. It turned out to be the slowest day of the year. We trolled for 3
hours or so and only managed 7 fish. Same pattern as above, but the hot color was a Gold Eriedesent DLR.
Hopefully the three day weekend will be more fruitful, it certainly cant be any worse then Sat or Sun!
Total Count For The Weekend: 18 Pike, 3 Walleye, 7 Rock Bass and a happy Wife
Thanks TRN

The weathermen once again said the weekend was going to be a bust, but when we woke on Saturday we
though we would take a chance with the cross dike for a couple of hours. Our bet paid off. The crew ended
up being Corey, David Veres and myself. We once again ran Rip Sticks and Deep Little Ripper. Hot baits were
once again Confusion in a Rip Stick 25fb, Tequila Sunrise Rip Stick 25fb, and Pink Lemonade Rip Stick 25fb.
We also picked up some fish on a Confusion DLR 25fb on a down rod. We trolled from 8:30 to 1:30 and picked
up 23 fish and missed a couple more.
We then switched to pulling 3 ways and picked up 8 incidental smallies, but no Northern. All fish came on the
southside. Water temp was 53.5 degrees.
Total Count: 23 Northern, 8 Smallie, 1 Largemouth

This weekend I ended up a bit shorthanded. TRN crew members Todd and Corey headed out to Put-In-Bay to
enjoy some refreshments and dancing with the ladies. Rick was gracious enough to let Rich and I join Lady
Bridge II for its maiden voyage of the year. We ran out of Anchor point around 7:00 and made a 6 mile run to A-
Can to start the day. Not even all the rods were in the water and we had our first fish. It came on a jet 40, 60
foot back with a stinger spoon in a purple color. After that one was in, we hit another. This time on a jet 20,
unfortunately it was lost at the boat. After that the fishing slowed down. We then made the run to the west
side of Niagara and picked up three more off of jets, with one more lost. Slowed down again so we headed to
the west side of Toussaint, nothing, water was way too clean with the sun up high. We made another stop at
A-Can and then out to the intake with no more takers. Not a fast day but still great to be on the water. 4
walleye total.
Sunday I had Kevin Winters with me from work, as if you cant tell from his TRW hat in the pictures section,
and we borrowed Kurt's boat, since he had "housework", and we headed over to the cross dike for some
Northern. We were set up at 8:15 and had our first fish in the boat 5 minutes later, Kevin's first Northern at
24+. I was worried at first since I was with a newbie, but he did a great job on his first trolling trip and we
were soon on another fish. All told we picked up 5 fish trolling with hot colors being Confusion in a Rip Stick
25fb, Tequila Sunrise Rip Stick 25fb. We switched over to drifting three ways and picked up another two and
Kevin scored a decent rock bass. We tried to fish the cut but the water was very clear with no mud line.
Called it a day at 11:30.
Total Count For The Weekend: 7 Pike, 4 Walleye and 1 Rock Bass.

The weekend started off with false reports of 5-7 foot waves on the big lake so we thought we were going to
take the weekend off. When the weather panned out on Sat Todd and I rallied around 1:00 and headed out to
the cross dike to troll for some Northern. We ended up with 8 fish trolling. Hot colors were Confusion in a
Deep Little Ripper 25fb and Gold Clown Ripstick 25fb. Speed was 2.8 - 3.0 with a water temp of 47.5 degrees.
We then switched over to pulling 3 ways with big shiners. We caught an additional 4 pike with 4 incidental
smallies. Done fishing by 6:00
Based on Saturdays success the team decided to head out to the same area again on Sunday Morning.
Dropped lines in a 8:00 and pulled 13 more pike on the same program. Hot colors on Sunday were Confusion
in a Rip Stick 25fb, Tequila Sunrise Rip Stick 25fb, and a Deep Little Ripper Fruit Loops 25fb. Water temp was
down slightly to 46 degrees.
Once again we switched over to pulling 3 ways for an additional 5 pike and 12 incidental smallies. Off the
water by 2:30.
Total Count: 30 Pike and 16 Smallies. Big fish was a 33" Northern on a Gold Clown Rip Stick. We also lost at
the net (wouldn't fit) a 40+ Northern on a Tequila Sunrise Ripstick. And yes, I was the net man!
Thanks TRN

On Sunday we headed out to1 mile south of Kelley's Island and started fishing fishing by 7:30.
The action was slow for most of the day. I think that one issue may have been the size of the minnows. The
place we stopped to get bait only had Walleye minnows so we were forced to cut most of them in half. We
made a couple of moves and ended up taking 46 fish total. The good thing is that there were no throwbacks
and no dinks. It didn't look like anyone was really slamming them, but some boats were doing better then us.
The water depth was 38ft, 44.5 degrees, and good clarity. The weather was a mixed bag, anything from sun
to clouds.
At 1:00 we pulled anchor and switched up to trolling for eyes. We ran north just a bit into 34fow. We pulled 8
cranks and 2 dipsys with spoons until the broke off (don't ask me, the dive charts for the dipsys must be
wrong because we were hitting bottom with 60ft out in only 25FOW!). We hit a spot in 32FOW and picked up a
triple of smallies. 2 cranks, 1 deep little ripper in trout, 1 reef runner in fried chicken, and 1 spoon in snatch.
All fish were between 3-4lbs. Speed of 1.8mph. After that is shut down. We quit around 2:30 and headed in.
3 fish for only an hour or so of trolling isn't that bad.
TRN Captain Jerry3.19.05 - Wampler Lake: Brooklyn, M
Started fishing Wamplers Lake around 6:00 am on Saturday. Left from
port of Jerry's Pub on Egan HWY. We drilled a couple holes and found
the fish with the vex in 16 FOW. We then dropped the aqua-vu and
located only smaller fish. We sat on the hole thinking maybe some
larger fish would come into the action. The crappie seemed to outnumber
the gills and perch 2-1. Lots of crappie suspended about 3-4 feet off
the bottom. Mostly small fish. Not enough large ones to get a small
meal. We did catch 2 fat bass and one pike about 22-24 inches that had
two jigs in its mouth. They seemed to make the panfish dissapear for a
while when they came to play. Pretty cool to see the gills zoom off the
camera and then 10 seconds later you see the bass and pike come swimming
through. Colored eurolarvea seemed to be the bait of choice scented
with anise/salt. Only about 6 other shantys out and nobody within a
quarter mile of us. Last trip for Ice Team Got Bluegill this year. Now
we are focusing on the gatorbacks on Lake Erie...A good, fun, and safe
season this year!

3.12.05 - Wampler Lake: Brooklyn, MI
After making the trek on the nasty roads in only 2 inches of snow, We
made it to Egan HWY and Jerrys Pub around a quarter to six. We got out
the our spot around 6 and started punching some holes. We got the
tip-ups set with golden shiners and started working the vex trying to
find some panfish. Marked very few in the area which is very odd. Once
the baits were dropped we started marking a little better fish. The red
eurolarvea seemed to be the best bait of choice on Saturday with
waxworms being a close second. In the first ten minutes of fishing,
three gills were on the ice. Nice sized and colored Sunnies...After
that we only managed to put one more nice gill on the ice. Lots of dink
Crappies - Perch - Gills. Did get to play with the new Aqua-Vu - What
an awesome tool to have. Caught a lot of fish that never flinched the
spring bobber. Makes ya wonder how many ya lost before without the
tool. Awesome toy to have! Tripped 6 flags for the day with 3 pike and
one 16 inch fat bass. Caught another pike on a perch minnow
deadsticked. The winds drove us off the lake around 11 am. Just
enjoying the bonus ice we are getting here in March.
